4-H Camp at Camp Wooten
Puget Sound Energy sponsored BMW’s participation in 4-H Camp at Camp Wooten in the Blue Mountains near Pomeroy, WA. The theme was Live Like A Raptor. Campers learned what a raptor is and then played two games that helped them understand the challenges raptors face during migration and when hunters use lead ammunition. …

Week in Review
Two Bald Eagles and three House Finches were released this week. One of the eagles had been shot. The other survived an encounter with power lines, nearly being electrocuted. Below one of the eagles heads out over the water at McKay Wildlife Refuge.

We are unable to treat Washington birds at our Pendleton center due to the continued presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza. As a result there were few admissions this past week. Smallest (and cutest) patient was a 34 gram Douglas Squirrel who made a 60 mile round trip before being discovered in the engine compartment of a vehicle. …

Avian Influenza Update
Avian influenza continues to impact everything we do at both the Pendleton and Tri-Cities Centers. The numbers of carcasses being collected daily in the Tri-Cities have decreased but are being found over a wider area including Columbia Park, Sacajawea State Park and Hood Park, which are in Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties respectively. …
