ANHU window strike

What a Week

I’m sure it wasn’t the busiest week we’ve ever had, but it must have been in the top five. There were 39 admissions, 23 raptors, 15 other birds and a baby beaver. Sadly the beaver died of injuries that were likely inflicted by an adult beaver from a neighboring colony.

Cooling Off

Keeping Cool


Although it cooled off a bit over the weekend, Temperatures hovered around 100 degrees last week. We ran sprinklers in most of the pens. This young Bald Eagle decided to hang out in his bath pan.

Lots of Releases!


Releases are the best part of wildlife rehabilitation and we had quite a few this week. One of the most amazing was Red-tailed Hawk 18-313. She was hit by a car on June 17. It took several days for her to be able to stand, but 2 1/2 weeks later she was flying beautifully.

GOEA trap

Golden Eagle 18-353

The first bird of the week was a Golden Eagle whose leg had been caught in a trap. He was found with the trap still on his leg and the chain anchoring the trap was tangled in a fence. The trap had been on the eagle’s leg long enough for the foot to turn black. …
