The Scavenger Pen is Functional Again!!!
Seven months after it collapsed under a heavy snow load, the Scavenger Pen is back in service. Thank you to everyone who helped with the deconstruction of the damaged pen and the reconstruction of the new pen. Banding Birds Before Release
It would be great if we could put telemetry on all the raptors we release, but telemetry is expensive some rarely have that opportunity. Putting numbered leg bands on the birds costs nothing but our time, so all raptors are banded prior to release. …

The Last Babies of 2021
The lone Swainson’s Hawk has been released. Several hawks are still returning for food, but soon they will be on their way to Argentina. There are just two fledgling Barn Swallows in the clinic. One is completely self-feeding, the other is still taking food from Kirsti’s forceps, but it has also started picking up mealworms on its own. …

During the last week of June, when temperatures were well above 100 degrees, BMW admitted 100 nestling Cooper’s Hawks and 25 nestling Swainson’s Hawks. Eighty-three of the Cooper’s Hawks were successfully released from the Tri-Cities center. Thirteen of the Swainson’s Hawks were released from the Pendleton center. …
