It was a relatively quiet week, just five new raptors: Merlin, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Western Screech Owl, Barn Owl and Great Horned Owl, and two songbirds: Lincoln Sparrow and Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Golden Eagle 18-634 Release

It was raptor week at BMW. Nine raptors were admitted and three were released. The most exciting release was Golden Eagle 18-634 who had likely been hit by a car (he was found in a road, unable to stand). Fortunately he had no major injuries and recovered quickly.

Fall is the time of year when we occasionally admit grebes. They mistake wet pavement or a large puddle for a larger body of water and crash land. Even if they are uninjured, they are unable to take off because they need to run across the water in order to get air born. …
