Baby Season is Drawing to a Close
Admissions slowed this week. There were just 11, 6 raptors, 5 non-raptors, and one very tiny baby, a California Quail. Good grief, what are those mamma quail thinking!

Hawk and Owl Releases
It was a big week for releases. Two young Swainson’s Hawks and three young Western Screech Owls were released from hack boxes at the Pendleton Center. Three young Cooper’s Hawks were released from a hack box on the Tucannon River near Pomeroy, WA. …

The Week That Was
There were 20 new admissions in the past week ranging in size from a Little Brown Bat and a fledgling Black-chinned Hummingbird, both weighing 4 grams, to a 1.55 kilogram Great Blue Heron. In between there were 10 raptors representing six species.

Farewell Katie, We Wish You the Very Best!
We bid a fond farewell to intern Katie on Saturday. Eight weeks goes by so quickly. We will miss her ready smile and energy. We will be a bit short-handed for the next three weeks. The intern scheduled to be here the beginning of August was unable to come at the last minute. …
