The Week In Review
The skies over Pendleton were relatively clear until this week, when the smoke from the many fires burning across Oregon finally reached us. The air quality is officially “unhealthy.” I can smell the smoke while sitting at my desk in the office.
Cedar Waxwing 22-361
Cedar Waxwing 22-361 was involved in a collision, likely with a window. His right radius is fractured, his right shoulder is dislocated and there is a large bruise on his back and shoulder. His right wing is taped to his body to stabilize the shoulder and radius. He seems to be quite fond of blueberries. You can see from the radiograph below he is quite plump!
Eastern Fox Squirrel 22-365
Eastern Fox Squirrels are native to the eastern United States, not eastern Oregon. They are considered an invasive species in Oregon so are not protected. It is still illegal to shoot them within the city limits. 22-365 was hit by a car on the north hill in Pendleton, a residential area. There are multiple fractures in his right jaw that could not be repaired. The radiograph below shows the squirrel had previously been shot at least three times. In addition to the jaw fractures, the radiograph shows pellets in his left front leg, his right hind leg and a shattered pellet in the left hind foot. The gunshot injuries were completely healed
