Another Week of Releases
Fall migration has begun so we are really motivated to get birds out the door. That means Tricia was on the road again.
Tuesday she traveled to Long Creek to release a Western Kingbird…
Wednesday she released a Northern Flicker in La Grande…
On Wednesday she and I released Barn Swallow at Community Park in Pendleton…
Great Horned Owl 22-357
Struck by a vehicle is one of the most common reasons birds are admitted to rehab centers. That seems to by the case for GHOW 22-357. The owl had three fractures: both scapulas and his left tibiotarsus. We may have been able to successfully stabilize the leg fracture, but there was so much displacement with the scapula fractures the prognosis for success was grim and the owl was euthanized. That is why we savor every release.
And those Armenian cucumbers just waiting to become pickles!
