Milbrandt Winery Shows its Appreciation
Volunteers Kenny and Janie made their second trip of the day to Prosser on Saturday to capture a woodpecker who had flown into the Prosser winery’s very high-ceilinged tasting room (they had already been to Prosser to pick up a Cooper’s Hawk from Outlook). After they successfully captured the woodpecker, the winery showed their appreciation with some complementary wine. Thank you Kenny and Janie and thank you Milbrandt Winery!
Cooper’s Hawk 20-569
Sadly, the Cooper’s Hawk Kenny and Janie transported Saturday morning had been shot. Even worse, it was shot in a park in a residential area of Outlook, WA. The hawk’s right ulna was fractured and the right elbow and wrist were also damaged. The injuries were not repairable and the bird was humanely euthanized.
Barn Owl 20-543 Released
A month ago, Kenny and Janie responded to a call about an injured Barn Owl near Benton City. The owl appeared to have suffered some type of collision. We could find no broken bones, but the owl couldn’t fly. Supportive care and tincture of time did the trick. Kenny released the owl on Saturday!
After the owl release, Kenny and Janie responded to a call regarding a young Pelican tangled in fishing line and a lure. The Pelican had been captured and the fishing line removed. They transported the bird to BMW’s Tri-Cities Center where Michele cleaned a wound under its left wing and dusted the bird with poultry dust - it was covered with lice!
Below, Michele and Janie pose after treating the Pelican.
Thank You BMW Volunteers
You always go the extra mile for the birds!
