Thank You Again!!!
Member Dorothy Van Note offered to match donations to BMW up to $2,500 in order to double proceeds from the recent Open House. You raised over $5,000 during the first week of the challenge. The second week you raised an additional $3,000 to bring the total Open House proceeds, with Dorothy’s match, to $13,103. Thank you so much! Your generosity is helping BMW end 2019 on a high note!
The week in Review
Bald Eagle 19-534, admitted two weeks ago with partially healed fractures in his left shoulder and left leg, is feeling much better. He’s been moved from a hospital cage outside to a mew where he can begin to exercise his shoulder and leg.
There were 8 new admissions this past week: 1 Merlin, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 1 Western Screech Owl and 2 Great Horned Owls. We seem to be averaging two gunshot birds per week. This week it was the Merlin and Sharpie. The Sharp-shinned Hawk died of his injuries, scapula and leg fractures, a few hours after admission. The Merlin’s injuries were not repairable and she was euthanized.
Roots and Shoots
Members of Roots and Shoots, a nature club at Sagebrush Montessori in Richland, WA, visited BMW thais past week. The students toured the center and dissected owl pellets. They also donated funds they had raised in support of BMW’s mission. Thank you Roots and Shoots!
