Soar Higher Update
Thank you to the 83 families and individuals who have given to the Soar Higher matching challenge. We are a few hundred dollars shy of $20,000. We still have three weeks to meet Linda’s challenge and, with her match, raise $50,000 for the new hospital.
Volunteer Meeting
Thank You to all who attended the volunteer meeting on Saturday. You are the backbone of Blue Mountain Wildlife. Your dedicated service and willingness to “go the extra mile” for the birds, helps BMW serve a geographic area the size of New York state.
Bald Eagle 19-081
Less than an hour after the volunteer meeting, volunteers went into action. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife called at 3:15 pm regarding a “sick eagle” near Naches, Washington. Volunteers Mark and Shelly headed up the mountain from Wapato to catch the bird. With an immature Bald Eagle safely loaded into a large dog kennel, they reversed course and traveled south to Prosser, where they met volunteers Ken and Janie who transported the eagle to Umatilla where they met Bob and I. We arrived at the clinic in Pendleton just before 8:30 p.m. In 5 hours, volunteers had traveled 360 miles to rescue the eagle.
A physical exam found the eagle to be extremely dehydrated, unable to stand. and very depressed. Her lead level was 7.0 micrograms/deciliter, not high enough to explain her condition. We will provide supportive care and monitor her closely.
