Less than $2,000 to Go to Meet Linda’s Challenge!
We are almost there! Thank you to the 97 individuals, families and businesses who have given $23,737 to the Soar Higher challenge. Successfully meeting the match will result in $50,000 being added to the Soar Higher campaign to build a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and environmental education center to help BMW fulfill our mission to preserve local native wildlife through rehabilitation, research and education. Thank you for your support!
The Education Team Shifts into High Gear
On Tuesday the team provided a program for youth on spring vacation at the Prosser Library. On Friday, Pendleton Home Schooled Children visited the Pendleton Center. They dissected owl pellets, toured the center viewing raptors on display, and then learned about migration by playing the Migration Game, avoiding windows, power lines, wind turbines, cars and humans during their travels south and then back north.
On Sunday the team traveled to the Last Resort, near Pomeroy, WA for a Youth Turkey event.
Little Brown Bat 19-083
At just 4 grams, this little bats is one of the smallest patients ever admitted to BMW. He was found at a local school. It is likely that he picked the wrong place to roost, and was injured when he was accidentally disturbed, resulting in two fractures in his right wing. Unfortunately, it was not possible to repair the fractures and he was humanely euthanized.
Update on Bald Eagle 19-081
Sadly, we were not able to save the young Bald Eagle. She rallied early in the week, but for reasons we could not determine, her kidneys were not functioning properly. Her condition began to worsen, and by Saturday evening it was apparent that we could not save her and she was euthanized.
