Welcome to 2022
The past week, with its extreme weather, was hard on everyone, including wildlife. BMW’s last admission of 2021 was an extremely emaciated Red-tailed Hawk that died shortly after admission. The hawk had no apparent injuries making it impossible to determine the cause of its emaciation.
The first admission of 2022 was also a Red-tailed Hawk. Both feet had severe frostbite. The hawk had no feeling or blood supply in either foot. The tissue was essentially dead and the hawk was euthanized.
BMW ended 2021 with a record 1648 admissions. Friends of BMW raised an amazing $26,587 via the Valley Giving Guide sponsored by Blue Mountain Community Foundation. We should find out what percentage the foundation will match in the coming week. Those funds in combination with year-end donations and membership renewals have put BMW in a good position to meet the challenges and opportunities of 2022. Thank you to all who helped get us here.
The wind is howling outside as I write this, bringing warmer temperatures which will melt our snow. Hopefully the birds will also fair better with the milder weather.
Annual Membership Meeting
Please join me and BMW’s Board Members for our Annual Membership Meeting on January 15, 2022 at 11:00 am via Zoom. The link will be in the next newsletter and on the website. We will look back on 2021 and forward at some of the possibilities 2022 has in store for us. I hope to see you there!
