Thank You Patterson Charitable Foundation and Autzen Foundation
BMW has received grants from the Patterson Charitable Foundation and the Autzen Foundation. A $6,324 grant from the Patterson Charitable Foundation will be used for operating expenses. A $4,000 grant from the Autzen Foundation will be combined with a grant from the Clara and Art Bald Trust to purchase a new bank of stainless steel cages. Both of these foundations have provided grant support to BMW for the past three years. We are very grateful for their generous support.

Dancing with Joy
Ring-necked Duck 18-721 appears to be dancing with joy after being released at McNary Wildlife Refuge in one of the ponds near McNary Dam. Yellow-rumped Warbler 18-684 and Lincoln Sparrow 18-685 were released nearby.
Two More Gunshot Hawks
Red-tailed Hawk 18-746 was found near Prosser, WA. She has a broken wing and a broken leg. Both fractures have been immobilized. We will have to wait and see if her right wing and right foot are functional enough for her to be released.
Sharp-shinned Hawk 18-748
Sharp-shinned Hawk 18-748, a juvenile female, was found in Boardman, OR with a badly broken right wing. Although there are no metal fragments visible in the radiograph, the fractures and wound are consistent with a gunshot injury. You can tell by the large amount of muscle mass on this hawk that she was a very successful hunter. Sadly, her wing was damaged too severely to be repaired and she was euthanized.
Save the Date: BMW’s Annual Membership Meeting is January 19, 2019, 1 pm
