Hawk and Owl Releases
It was a big week for releases. Two young Swainson’s Hawks and three young Western Screech Owls were released from hack boxes at the Pendleton Center. Three young Cooper’s Hawks were released from a hack box on the Tucannon River near Pomeroy, WA. Three adult Red-tailed Hawks were also released from the Pendleton Center. One hawk was a gunshot victim. The other two hawks were admitted (at different times from different locations) with a sticky substance on their feathers.
Lots of Raptors
Raptors are still dominating new admissions. This week brought two Barn Owls, a Great Horned Owl, two Red-tailed Hawks, four Swainson’s Hawks, a Cooper’s Hawk, three American Kestrels and two Osprey. Transport volunteer and BMW Board Member Tara brought the second Osprey, a young bird that appears to have been electrocuted, Sunday afternoon. His prognosis is guarded, but it takes several days to determine the extent of tissue damage. In the mean time, we will provide supportive care
