Happy Halloween

Watch out for tiny trick or treaters and mischief makers tonight! Toni Faust spotted this little guy enjoying a pumpkin.

Northern Saw-whet Owl 21-752

Saw-whet owls are one of the smallest owls found in eastern Oregon and eastern Washington. Typically they are not found in Pendleton. This little guy was probably passing through town on his way south when he was involved in a collision. You can see in the radiograph below that his right shoulder and side are quite swollen. He seems to be responding to treatment and is getting very feisty. He ate a 15 gram mouse last night (he weighs 80 grams, about 3 ounces).
