Off the Chart

The temperature and the number of admissions continue to be off the chart. The high in Pendleton on Sunday was 110. Total admissions are at 573, compared to 567 for all of 2014.

Raptor Admissions for the week:  5 Red-tailed Hawks, 4 American Kestrels, 2 Cooper’s Hawks, 1 Swainson’s Hawk, 1 Long-eared Owl, 1 Northern Harrier and 1 Barn Owl.

Truth is stranger than fiction. A guy in Idaho thought it would be funny to load hay onto a hay truck without telling the truck driver that 6 baby Barn Owls were in the hay. The truck traveled to West Yellowstone, Montana where the hay was unloaded and the owls were discovered. …

Business slowed down a bit at BMW this past week. There were just 12 new admissions to bring the yearly total to 433, not quite double the number at this time last year. A young Barn Owl from Wapato brought the baby Barn Owl total to 164 (compared to 96 in 2014).
