Four Owls a Racing Pigeon and a Bat

This year three-quarters of BMW's  admissions have come from Washington, so it was an unusual week when everyone had an Oregon address. There were two Great Horned Owls from John Day (on different days of course), a Racing Pigeon

Fall migration is well underway and it is bringing bats and nighthawks our way. A Silver-haired Bat and a Common Nighthawk were admitted on Monday. The bat was coated with canola oil, which in addition to being consumed by humans, is used to lubricate equipment. …

Baby Quail!

Fall is in the air, but apparently some birds missed the memo Mother Nature sent out regarding shorter days and cooler nights. On Monday, 11 baby California Quail were found wandering a Pendleton neighborhood without their parents. They are not much more than a week old in this photo taken Sunday afternoon.

Hawk Positive for West Nile Virus

The emaciated Red-tailed Hawk from Sumpter, OR who died six days after admission, has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). WNV positive mosquitoes have been found in most of the counties in BMW's service area (in both Washington and Oregon). …
