The Week in Review

GHOW from White Swan

As is typical, the first babies of the season were raptors: first Great Horned Owls, then Western Screech Owls, followed by Barn Owls and Red-tailed Hawks. Non-raptor nestlings admitted this week included American Robins, a Brewers Blackbird, Black-billed Magpies and an American Crow. The young Great Horned Owl above was found near White Swan, WA. The two Red-tailed Hawks below came from Zillah and Outlook, WA.

RTHA's from WA

The other news this week is that I was able have surgery and now have a new left hip joint. My niece Tricia Marquez is here for a few weeks to help out. I should be good as new (or even better!) in two or three weeks. Fortunately, Samantha, intern Adrian and Tricia are keeping things running smoothly in Pendleton.  Transport volunteers have been putting lots of  miles on their cars, and dozens of Barn Owls and Mallard ducklings are being raised at the Tri-Cities Center.
