Soar Higher Update

Soar Higher Graphic (1)

Wow! We are almost halfway to meeting Linda Wolcott’s challenge. Thank you to everyone who has donated. You have raised $11,085. If you haven’t had a chance to make a donation, you still have time to help us meet her challenge and raise $50,000 to help BMW Soar Higher!

Western Screech Owl 19-050

Intrepid volunteers Krista and Janie spent two hours, Janie on the roof, Krista practically in the fireplace, and an owl above the firebox in the chimney, before they successfully rescued the screech owl. He was covered in soot, but uninjured. A bath with Dawn Dish Soap took all the soot off except on the top of is head.

The lesson from owl 19-050 is make sure you have a spark arrester on your chimney. It will keep sparks from escaping and screech owls, and other cavity nesting birds, from entering.

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

Elizabeth celebrated her 8th birthday at BMW with friends and family. The high point of her visit was releasing a Red-Tailed Hawk who had been injured just before Christmas.
