Soar Higher Update: Thank you to all who have helped raise $15,842 to meet Linda Wolcott’s $25,000 challenge!!! Special thanks to Carrie.

Carrie's Project

We received a letter containing a note and $16 from Carrie this past week. Carrie left her note and dollar at McNary Wildlife Refuge in Burbank. Several people saw the note and added more dollars. Refuge staff forwarded the note and donations to BMW. As part of the Soar Higher challenge, the funds will be doubled.

Carrie, you have indeed made a difference! Your dollar has been transformed into $32 to help build a wildlife hospital. Thank you so very much.

Transport Volunteer Meeting: Saturday, March 30, 1 pm

Volunteers Valerie, Krista, Alisha, Marla, Pam, Kennie, Janie, Mark, Laurel, Michele, Joshua, Bill, Tara, Alyssa and Rosie all helped BMW this past week. They helped in various ways, including transporting injured birds, cleaning and refurbishing enclosures.

Are you interested in being a Blue Mountain Wildlife volunteer? Come to the Volunteer meeting Saturday, March 30, 1 pm at  Mid-Columbia Wildlife Refuge, 64 Maple St, Burbank, WA 99323. There will be refreshments, and information about how volunteers help save our local wildlife!

Volunteer Marla traveled to Cunningham, WA (near Connell) this past week to rescue Rough-legged Hawk 19-074). The hawk collided with a vehicle. She appears to have been stunned and bruised. Hopefully, she will soon be ready to complete her spring migration and spend the summer in the arctic tundra.

Three More Gunshot Birds

There were 12 admissions this past week. Three were gunshot victims: a Mourning Dove and two Red-tailed Hawks. Red-tailed Hawk 19-075 was especially sad. The hawk had been shot several weeks earlier, fracturing his right leg. Miraculously, the leg had healed. Then, this past week, the hawk suffered fractures in his left wing in a collision, perhaps with a car or power line. The vast majority of BMW patients have been negatively impacted by human activity, either directly or indirectly. For wildlife, in addition to survival of the fittest, it is survival of humans.
