The Week In Review

There were just five new admissions this week: an emaciated Red-tailed Hawk, a Great Horned Owl with head trauma, a Great Horned Owl with a humerus fracture in the elbow joint, a Northern Flicker with a broken beak and a back injury and a Rock Dove that had been shot (in downtown Pendleton). None of the birds could be saved.

Hawk to Alaska

Rough legged Hawk 21-769 was found along I-84 near Hermiston last November. We assume the hawk was struck by a vehicle. He has recovered from his injuries, but is blind in his right eye. Having vision in just one eye is a significant handicap for a sight hunter. Arrangements are being made to transfer the hawk to the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka to become a member of their education team.

Great Horned Owl 22-052

GHOW 22-052

This owl had a traumatic brain injury. We treated it for several days  but were unable to get any improvement in its ability to hold its head in a normal position.

Two Pair

Currently there are two adult Bald Eagles and two young Golden Eagles under care at BMW. Fortunately they get along with each other.
