A New Challenge

BAEA 19-534

Long-time BMW member Dorothy Van Note was one of many volunteers who helped make the recent Open House a smashing success. Nearly 300 BMW supporters attended, raising just over $2,500. Dorothy would like to challenge those who were unable to attend in person to raise an additional $2,500. She will match donations up to $2,500, bringing the Open House total to $7,500! Thank You Dorothy for your generous offer!

Another Raptor Week

GHOW 19-532

Business picked up a bit this past week with 10 new admissions, 9 raptors and a Varied Thrush. Raptors included 1 American Kestrel, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Coopers Hawks, 1 Bald Eagle, 2 Barn Owls and 1 Great Horned Owl.

Great Horned Owl 19-532 dislocated his left elbow while struggling to free himself from netting covering a chicken coop. The prognosis for a complete recovery is guarded, but we are giving him a chance. If a feisty attitude has anything to do with it, he will do well.

Bald Eagle 19-534

BAEA 19-534 rad.001

A young Bald Eagle was found along a highway near Wallowa, in far eastern Oregon. An exam revealed old fractures in the left coracoid and left tibiotarsus, likely the result of being hit by a car two or three weeks earlier. Both fractures were healed. It is doubtful that he will be fully flighted when completely recovered, but it seems like he deserves a chance after surviving such traumatic injuries.
