The Week in Review
It was a slow week for Blue Mountain Wildlife, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of excitement. Admissions included a Western Screech Owl trapped in a chimney, a gunshot Great Horned Owl and a Cooper’s Hawk that died before reaching the center.
Blue Mountain Wildlife Endowment Fund
The cause for excitement was the receipt of a $45,000 check from the Leona B Ambrose Living Trust. This generous gift from the estate of Leona Ambrose will be used to establish an endowment fund for Blue Mountain Wildlife. The fund will be managed by Blue Mountain Community Foundation of Walla Walla, WA and will help ensure that BMW can continue pursuing its mission of preserving native wildlife through rehabilitation, research and education long into the future. Although I did not have an opportunity to meet Leona,I’m immensely grateful that she shared my passion for helping native wildlife.
Great Horned Owl 21-781
The owl was admitted to BMW’s Pendleton Center on Thanksgiving Day with a fractured left ulna and wounds consistent with being shot. He is progressing well in the clinic. A special Thank You to volunteers Terry, Ken, Janie and Kelly who took time out of their Thanksgiving Holiday to help this owl!
Golden Eagle 21-778 Update
The eagle is recovering well from lead poisoning. His first course of chelation to remove the lead is complete. He will need at least one more course of treatment to remove lead from his blood. When not focused on eating a rat, he is able to place his forward facing toes normally, but the large halux talons still fold under his feet. If there is no improvement by Monday, we will put his eagle booties back on to remind the toes of their proper placement.
Blue Mountain Wildlife is again participating in the Valley Giving Guide sponsored by Blue Mountain Community Foundation. The Valley Giving Guide is a year-end fundraising effort to bring donations and attention to nonprofits in our community. It’s an online donation page that will be available starting on November 30th (Giving Tuesday) thru the end of December 2021! We receive 100% of each online donation! All donations will count towards the Matching Funds that the foundation is raising for this event. Checks will be accepted…information on where to send them is in the FAQ page on the Valley Giving Guide.
Here’s how you can help! Donate if you can by clicking on the Valley Giving Guide link and share that you donated on your social media! If you aren’t able to donate, we will be posting on social media (Facebook and Instagram) too, and need you to like and share these posts on your social media! You can even email family and friends the link above and ask them for their help.
Let everyone know and help us raise funds to save wildlife in 2022…and build our donor base for the future!
