November 16 - November 22

The Week in Review

It was a fairly quiet week with just six new admissions. Winnie and Samantha are continuing to install perches in the new display pen. They have completed the Turkey Vulture, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Snowy Owl and medium owl aviaries with the Buteo and large Falcon aviaries remaining. Next is plumbing and electrical if the weather cooperates.

Long-eared Owl 20-590

LEOW 20-590

The first admission this past week was a Long-eared Owl found tangled in a barbed-wire fence. Her wounds were confined to one wing and seem to be healing nicely. She should be ready to move outside for additional exercise toward the end of the week.

Merlin 20-593

Merl 20-593 rad.001

The last admission of the week was a male Merlin. He has an ulna fracture that is close to his right elbow. He collided with something with a great deal of force. We should know within the next week or so if he will have a fully functional elbow. If you compare the two wings in the radiograph you can see that there is swelling to just below the shoulder to the wrist.
