Darryl and Darrel - Oops!
After 17 years, Turkey Vultures Darrel and Darryl each laid an egg! We had recently noticed the two were uncharacteristically grumpy with each other. Now we know why! I guess we should have named them Darlene and Darleen.
The New Cages are in Constant Use
The new stainless steel cages that you helped purchase this past winter are doing their job. There is not one plastic dog crate in use in the clinic. Current cage occupants include one Red-tailed Hawk, one Prairie Falcon, three Western Screech Owls, two nestling Brewer’s Blackbirds, two fledgling American Robins, one fledgling and five nestling House Finches, three fledgling Scrub Jays, and five fledgling Black-billed Magpies. All the fledglings will be moved outside on Monday if they maintain their weight over the weekend. Samantha and intern Taylor are very busy!
Thank You Pendleton Home School Association Work Party
On Tuesday a very energetic group from the Pendleton Home School Association spent 2 1/2 hours working hard weed eating, planting flowers, remodeling an eagle aviary, making enrichment toys for a variety of birds, and much more!
Stephen Gauntt Completed His Eagle Scout Project
Stephen organized 23 volunteers, members of Scout Troop 148 in Kennewick and school friends, to assemble, paint and mount 6 barn owl nest boxes for his Eagle Scout project. He received donations from Parr Lumber, Miller Paint, Borton Fruit and his father, Drex Gauntt. Congratulations Stephen for a job well done. The hay fields surrounding the nest boxes will benefit from the free rodent control provided by the occupants of the boxes.
Canyon View Elementary School
The Education Team visited second graders at Canyon View Elementary School in Kennewick this past week. The students had lots of questions about raptors!
