Week in Review
It was a fairly stressful week with the admission of a Bald Eagle and a Red-tail Hawk with symptoms consistent with avian influenza. Both birds were examined in our outside quarantine area. The eagle died shortly after admission. The Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife is having it tested for influenza. The hawk was euthanized on admission. Both birds were found near Irrigon, Oregon.
Gunshot Swainson’s Hawk 22-203
This adult Swainson’s Hawk was shot at least three times. There is an air rifle pellet plus small metal fragments from a second projectile below the right knee joint. The right metacarpals and the right shoulder were damaged by a third projectile. Sadly, the wing damage was not repairable and the hawk was euthanized.

BMW’s Great Horned Owl Hack Site
It’s not the best picture, but the Great Horned Owl perched on top of the barn is one of the owls hacked (raised) there last year.
