Blue Mountain Audubon Society Challenge
Blue Mountain Audubon Society has established a $1,000 matching grant challenge to encourage gifts in support of BMW’s new wildlife hospital and education center. Audubon will match donations to the new hospital campaign between now and August 1, 2019, up to a total of $1,000. If you didn’t have an opportunity to participate in the recent Soar Higher challenge, please consider helping meet the Audubon challenge. Your gift will help provide an additional $2,000 for construction of new housing for BMW’s Ambassador Birds. Thank you Blue Mountain Audubon Society for sharing in our vision of a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and environmental education center!
Red-tailed Hawk 19-148
In order to reduce the risk of airplane strikes at the Portland International Airport, Red-tailed Hawks are captured, banded and translocated from the airfield. Hawk N/5 had been observed for some time in the Walla Walla area by volunteer Bill Dunham. Unfortunately, Bill was called on to transport the hawk to BMW’s Pendleton Center after he was hit by a car. The hawk has fractures in his right wrist. The prognosis for a complete recovery is guarded, but we are hopeful.
Education Team on the Road
It is a busy time of year for the Education Team. This past week included participation in La Grande Outdoor School at Camp Elkanah (it rained most of the day!), and Make a Splash at Walla Walla Community College.
Interns at Work
The interns are keeping busy too. Below Kerry restrains Bald Eagle 19-132 prior to administering his morning treatments. Taylor restrains Red-tailed Hawk 19-148 as he is given oral fluids.
