Thank You to All Who Helped Make the New Display Pens a Reality
The project started with a matching challenge last year by BMW member Linda Wolcott. You responded with overwhelming generosity. Kralman Steel Structures then turned our dream into reality. Next is installation of the marine netting on the front and shade cloth between the pens. The awesome paint crew, Alexis, Annaka and Darnelle, were back on Sunday to apply a second coat of paint.
The New X-ray Machine Has Arrived
Thank You to everyone who helped meet the match for the Raptor Rehab Analysis and to those who made additional donations for a new x-ray machine. Thank you also to John Goodell, Northwest Avian Resources, and Co-Investigator of the analysis. John has graciously offered to reduce his fee for the study to ensure quick replacement of the x-ray machine. The new machine was installed this past week.
Sadly, the first radiograph taken with the new machine was of gunshot Red-tailed Hawk 20-298. Volunteers Mark and Shelly captured the hawk in Yakima. It died before reaching Pendleton. There was a suspicious looking wound in the abdominal area. The radiograph confirmed the hawk had been shot twice.
Swainson’s Hawk 20-315
Four days later, an adult female Swainson’s Hawk with a brood patch (indicating she had young in a nest) was admitted. She had a broken wing. A radiograph again confirmed she had been shot. The fractures in her left wing were not repairable and she was euthanized.
