Another Busy Week
BMW’s Pendleton and Tri-Cities centers continue to be very busy places, about 20% ahead of last year, with 611 admissions to date. This may well be the year we admit more than 1000 patients! Below, interns Julia and Shannon treat an American Kestrel.

Ken and Janie to the Rescue
The most amazing rescue this week was accomplished by Ken and Janie with the help of the City of Kennewick. City workers pulled a man hole cover allowing Ken and Janie to access a 20 foot deep pit were 8 Mallard Ducklings were trapped. Using 4 broom handles taped to a fish net, the ducklings were rescued! That’s what I call team work!

First Baby Swainson’s Hawks of the Season
There were 33 admissions to the Pendleton center this past week including 16 raptors and the first nestling Swainson’s. “Green” is approximately 5 weeks old and fell from a nest in Selah, WA. “Blank” is approximately 4 weeks old and came from Ephrata, WA. Blank injured his left wingtip in the fall. Hopefully his young age will help him heal quickly.

Barn Owl Release
Intern Julia released a Barn Owl who had recovered from a shoulder injury.
