Goodby 2015 ~ Hello 2016
Thank You Members and Volunteers
Thank You to everyone who attended BMW’s Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, Jan 23. Your generosity and dedication have allowed BMW to accomplish amazing things in 2015 and begin 2016 in good shape. 2015 ended with a record 950 admissions and saw the purchase of a new microscope, a digital x-ray system and a larger intern trailer. The freezers are full of food: rats, mice and quail, and we have a new source of thousands of frozen gophers (free food). It doesn’t get much better than that! Seventy-six percent of admissions came from Washington, a three percent increase from 2014.
Second Bald Eagle of the Year
There were just three admissions this past week, and all were on Monday. Bob met volunteers Dan and Claudia in Umatilla with a Barn Owl from Finley. It died of internal injuries the result of being hit by a car. A tiny Goldfinch died after being maled by a cat in Pendleton.
Volunteer Toni drove to Othello, WA for an immature Bald Eagle that was thought to have hit a power line. He had a compound fracture of the left humerus. The fracture was near the elbow joint which was also badly damaged. The wing was not repairable and the eagle had to be euthanized: a very sad day.
