Thank You Avangrid Foundation
We are pleased to announce that Blue Mountain Wildlife has been awarded a $7,500 grant by the Avangrid Foundation to support BMW’s Internship, lead testing and educational program expenses, in partnership with Avangrid Renewables. We are very grateful to Avangrid Foundation for their continued support of BMW.
Below, intern Adelyn Chamberlain, a Plant and Wildlife Ecology major at Brigham Young University of Idaho is recovering a Flammulated Owl from anesthetic (the tiny owl was released the first of October). Addy completed an 8-week internship just before Thanksgiving. BMW’s Internship Program is a win-win situation for interns and BMW, providing interns with valuable hands-on experience and BMW with 1000’s of hours of increased staffing each year. We are grateful to Addy for all her hard work and wish her the very best in her studies. Thank you to the Avangrid Foundation for supporting the Internship Program in 2020.
The Week in Review
There were eight admissions this past week: two Sharp-shinned Hawks, one Western Screech Owl, three Great Horned Owls (all on Saturday), one Ring-necked Duck and one Cedar Waxwing. Thankfully, none were gunshot victims. Bob is preparing to recover a Great Horned Owl from anesthesia. The owl appears to have been electrocuted. She has small wounds and edema on both wingtips. Hopefully she will make a complete recovery.
How to Donate Your IRA Mandatory Minimum Distribution to BMW
When you reach age 70 1/2 there is an annual minimum distribution requirement from your IRA. If you do not need the funds for living expenses and would like to avoid paying taxes on the distribution, you can direct that it go directly to a charity. Consult your accountant or financial planner to learn if this option makes sense for you. Charitable contributions must be made by December 31 each year in order to exclude that amount from taxable income.
