Visitors from Japan
Minamisoma, Japan is Pendleton’s sister city. We had a delightful visit with six exchange students and their interpreter this past week. Intern Nicole had a perfect opportunity to practice her Japanese.
Swainson’s Hawk Releases
Five more Swainson’s Hawks were released from two hack boxes this past week. Two more hawks are ready to go into a box for release next week.
Osprey 18-496
Intern Wendy returned this young Osprey to his family after he spent some time at the Pendleton center growing out his flight feathers. We said goodby to Wendy too. She has returned to Portland Community College to begin the second year of a Certified Veterinary Technician program. Best of luck Wendy, you’ll be a great CVT!
Golden Eagle 18-563
A sub-adult Golden Eagle was found in the middle of a road south of Heppner, OR. He appeared to have been hit by a car. He didn’t have any broken bones or major wounds, but he was missing almost all of the feathers on one wing and his lab results indicated a major loss of blood. He died of internal hemorrhaging four hours after being admitted.
Long-eared Owl 18-538
This little owl had surgery in Ellensburg about six weeks ago. When he arrived at BMW a week-and-a-half ago, he could not fully extend his right wing. After some self-directed physical therapy, great progress has been made!
