Hawk Release Celebration
We celebrated the successful completion of the Soar Higher Challenge with a visit to Wild Birds Unlimited and with the release of a Red-tailed Hawk. The hawk made a hard right turn out of the box, providing the cheering crowd with a brief, closeup view. Tammy Wolf Slack shared her photo of the release.
Thank you to Linda Wolcott for her generous and creative challenge, and to the 109 friends, families and businesses who helped us surpass the challenge, raising more than $53,000 for Soar Higher!
Common Poorwill 19-091
A Common Poorwill somehow managed to enter a hospital lobby with two-story tall windows. Unable to escape, the tired poorwill landed on a narrow ledge - a very high, narrow ledge! Fearless volunteer, Krista, climbed an equally tall ladder and plucked the tiny bird (46 grams, less than two ounces) off the ledge. After a check up and a rest, intern Kerry set the poorwill free to continue its northern migration.
