Halloween Fun

Winnie decorated a pumpkin for Maggie, who had great fun finding out what was inside. Click on the photo below to see (and hear) Maggie's response.

Two more Western Grebes landed in the wrong places this past week, one in Echo and one in Pendleton. Both were successfully released at McKay Wildlife Refuge. Click on the photo below to watch the release video.

Goodbye Intern Emily

We bid a fond farewell to Emily. From pelican condos to hummingbird habitats, no project was too big or too small. She accomplished them all with eagerness and a beautiful smile.

She is an accomplished artist as well. I treasure her sketch of an American Kestrel Rainbow.

Sadness as Well

There was sadness this week as well. The little Saw-whet Owl admitted last week with the badly bruised mouth died. A necropsy revealed hemorrhage in the base of her brain and spinal column.

A second Saw-whet Owl was admitted this past week with a nonrepairable compound fracture in his left wing. He was humanely euthanized.

Next Steps Visit

Hermiston High School Next Steps class visited the center on Thursday. They asked lots of questions and each student made a donation to BMW. Thank you Next Steps students!
