Off the Chart

The temperature and the number of admissions continue to be off the chart. The high in Pendleton on Sunday was 110. Total admissions are at 573, compared to 567 for all of 2014.

Raptor Admissions for the week:  5 Red-tailed Hawks, 4 American Kestrels, 2 Cooper’s Hawks, 1 Swainson’s Hawk, 1 Long-eared Owl, 1 Northern Harrier and 1 Barn Owl.

This fledgling Long-eared Owl’s left leg was broken above the foot and was healing with the foot nearly at right angles to his leg. Using traction while the owl was under anesthesia, the foot was manipulated into a nearly normal position and the foot and leg were immobilized with a splint. We will recheck in a week and see if further correction is needed.
